TCH(s): 3 (RI DOH)
Cost: Free

Instructor: Amber Fagan

Course Description:  Emerging contaminants are chemicals and microorganisms that are not routinely monitored but
are increasingly being detected in water resources nationwide. These substances—such as
pharmaceuticals, personal care products, household cleaners, lawn care chemicals, and
agricultural byproducts—pose potential risks to both environmental and human health.
This four‑hour training is designed for drinking water and wastewater professionals who want a
clear understanding of what emerging contaminants are, why they matter, and how they affect
system operations. We’ll review current EPA perspectives, discuss real‑world impacts on
treatment processes, and explore strategies for identifying, managing, and communicating about
these contaminants within your community.
Ideal for operators, supervisors, and staff involved in water quality, compliance, planning, or
system management.
