


Now Hiring Water System Operator in Training
Will train the right candidate to operate, inspect, and maintain the various components of the water supply, treatment, and distribution systems for both the Quonset Business Park and Ladd Center public water systems (PWS’s). Provide technical input on as well as oversee proposed repair plans to the systems, which include commercial wells, emergency interconnects, storage/pressure towers, distribution pipelines, associated valves, hydrants, cross connection control equipment, and electronic meters. Conduct all associated building and grounds maintenance.
To qualify, candidates must demonstrate the ability to learn how to:
Operate and monitor pumps of various sizes and capacities, including deep well, chemical feed, booster, and sump pumps.
Monitor SCADA equipment, altitude valves, manual/electronic flow meters, and similar equipment.
Identify and troubleshoot malfunctioning system components.
Perform preventive maintenance inspections and undertake a variety of routine and emergency repairs, including underground transmission main breaks.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and system/component operating manuals.
Required Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license
High school diploma or GED
CDL is required or must be attained within six (6) months.
Ability to obtain a R.I. Board of Certification of Operators of Drinking Water Supply Facilities: Distribution Operator Class 1 and Treatment Operator Class 1 licenses are required; or certification in Rhode Island by reciprocity from another state must be attained within 6 months (180) days from the date of hire.
Ability to obtain a R.I. Board of Certification of Operators of Drinking Water Supply Facilities: Distribution Operator Class 2 license required within 18 months from date of hire.
New England Waterworks Association or American Backflow Prevention Association: Certified Backflow Prevention Device Inspector/Tester; or must be attained within two (2) years of hire date.
Must be able to attain a TWIC, General Dynamics / Electric Boat, and Department of Defense (DBIDS) security clearance badges within 90 days from the date of hire.

Now Hiring Mechanic/Plant Operator Wastewater Treatment Facility
Quonset Development Corporation is seeking a skilled and motivated Wastewater Mechanic/Plant Operator to join our
team. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and operating the wastewater treatment and collection systems that
support the Quonset Business Park. The successful candidate will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on
wastewater treatment facility mechanical equipment and systems to support safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations.
Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, conveyors,
engines, and other mechanical components associated with treatment and collection system operations. The position
emphasizes hands-on mechanical troubleshooting, equipment reliability, and repair of rotating and process equipment.
As part of the wastewater team, responsibilities include:
Operating and monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment, including pumps, valves, gates,
comminutors, bar racks, screens, clarifiers, aeration systems, biological treatment systems, disinfecting
equipment, engines, generators, and related machinery.
Troubleshoots and conducts major and minor emergency repairs and permanent repairs to equipment.
Understand and maintain equipment shop drawings and equipment O&M Manuals.
Performing preventative maintenance and repair work on mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and treatment
system devices. Accurately recording operational and maintenance data in a neat and legible manner.
Performing routine lubrication, inspection, and maintenance of equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Supporting the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system, including pumping stations, lift
stations, collection piping, appurtenances, and related infrastructure throughout the Quonset Business Park.
Performing moderate to heavy physical work, including frequent lifting of 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up
to 100 pounds or more.
Must be physically capable of performing confined space entry work, including climbing into and out of
manholes, vaults, lift stations, and other restricted-access areas in compliance with established safety protocols.
Education, Experience, and Special Qualifications
Candidates for this position must:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Possess two (2) years of post-secondary education or technical training in industrial maintenance, mechanics,
electrical systems, or a related field.
Possess two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, operation, and repair of mechanical wastewater treatment
or sewage works equipment.
Possess a Maintenance or Industrial Mechanic Certification (CMRT) or demonstrate proven experience and
ability in preventative maintenance practices and equipment repair. Hold and maintain a valid Rhode Island
driver’s license, as operation of plant vehicles on and off-site is required.
Possess a Grade 2 or higher Wastewater Operator Certification or hold a Grade 1 Certification and obtain a Grade
2 Certification within one (1) year of hire.
Possess, or be capable of obtaining within one (1) year of hire, a valid Grade 1 Collection System Operator
Certificate.
Schedule and On-Call Requirements
This position is scheduled for 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Weekend, holiday, weather-related, and emergency response overtime/on-call coverage is required on a rotating schedule.
Compensation
Compensation progression for this position is as follows:
First 90 days of employment: $32.58 per hour
Second 90-day period: $34.50 per hour
Upon successful completion of the 6-month probationary period: $38.33 per hour

that support the Quonset Business Park. The successful candidate will help ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant
operation of the treatment facility and related infrastructure.
As part of the wastewater team, responsibilities include:
Operating and monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment, including pumps, valves, gates,
comminutors, bar racks, screens, clarifiers, aeration tanks, biological treatment systems, disinfecting equipment,
engines, generators, and related machinery.
Monitoring plant operations and controls to ensure proper system performance and regulatory compliance.
Performing routine inspections and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, lift stations,
collection system piping, appurtenances, and related equipment throughout the Quonset Business Park.
Occasionally performing laboratory analyses, recording gauge and meter readings, documenting chemical usage,
and maintaining accurate operational logs for the wastewater treatment facility.
Performing or assisting with major repair work, heavy labor tasks, routine housekeeping, and grounds and facility
maintenance as directed.
Performing moderate to heavy physical work, including frequent lifting in excess of 30 pounds and occasional
lifting of up to 100 pounds or more.
Education, Experience, and Special Qualifications
Candidates for this position must:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Hold and maintain a valid Rhode Island driver’s license, as operation of plant vehicles on and off-site is required.
Be capable of obtaining, within one (1) year of hire, a valid Grade I or higher Wastewater Treatment Facility
Operator’s License issued by RIDEM.
Be capable of obtaining, within one (1) year of hire, a valid Grade I or higher Collection Systems Operator
Certificate issued by NEWEA.
Entry into this position may occur at the trainee level. In such cases, the employee will receive instruction and training for
a maximum period of six (6) months under the direction of the Superintendent in the operation and maintenance of all
elements of the wastewater treatment and collection systems.
