Course Description:
This session provides operators with a practical and in-depth look at how Variable Speed Drives
(VSDs) are used throughout water and wastewater systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and
operational control. Participants will learn how VSDs regulate pump and motor performance,
reduce energy consumption, stabilize pressure and flow, and extend equipment life by
minimizing mechanical wear. The session will also cover essential considerations such as proper
drive selection, installation requirements, environmental factors, harmonics, and common
troubleshooting techniques. Real world examples from small and rural systems will highlight how
VSDs can solve every day operational challenges and support regulatory compliance. By the end
of the session, operators will have a stronger understanding of how VSD technology integrates
into treatment, distribution, and collection system processes—and how to apply best practices to
optimize system performance. Please ask about hybrid training options.
