Course Outline:
Emerging contaminants are synthetic or naturally occurring chemicals or any microorganisms that are not commonly monitored in the environment, but have the potential to enter the environment and cause known or suspected adverse ecological and/or human health effects. Emerging contaminants, or contaminants of emerging concern, can refer to many different kinds of chemicals including medicines, personal care or household cleaning products, lawn care and agricultural products. According to EPA, an emerging contaminant is a chemical or material characterized by a perceived, potential, or real threat to human health or the environment, or by a lack of published health standards. This is a four-hour training course to discuss these contaminants and their effect on drinking water and wastewater.
